Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has explained why Frenkie de Jong left the pitch during the win over Elche due to fatigue.
The Holland international was substituted in the 76th minute with Riki Push on as the score was tied 2-2 until the final five minutes for the team’s winning goal from substitute Neko Gonzalez.
The 41-year-old boss reasoned that this decision was due to Frenkie’s hard work causing fatigue that had to be removed.

“He gave us things. So He may not be as fluent as Gavi and Neko, but he is doing amazing,” Xavi said.
“He helped the defensive game very well. According to the second stroke of the ball It’s all about fatigue. He plays continuously and that is the result.”
De Jong was reportedly whistled by some sections of the support as he made his way off the pitch. There has been speculation in recent weeks that he could be sold to raise some much-needed funds.
The Dutchman’s father has also spoken out about his future. And admitted some of Europe’s top clubs have already been in touch. But he does not expect his son to leave Barca any time soon.
